Remixed mp3 over Poe singing “Haunted” on the Greg Schmilborne show

Here’s the original:

Happy Anniversary Interwebs!

October 29, 1969, the first two nodes of ARPANET were interconnected between UCLA’s School of Engineering and Applied Science and SRI International (SRI) in Menlo Park, California. It took 12 years for 213 computers to get linked in the network.

And now we shall never be the same!

At least some of the pundits can see through their bewildered fog

MONICA NOVOTNY: John, what about this controversy over opposition to Obama’s speech to school children?

JOHN HARWOOD: I gotta’ tell you Monica, I’ve been watching politics for a long time, and this one is really over-the-top. What is shows you is there are a lot of cynical people who try to fan controversy, and let’s face it, in a country of 300 million people, there are a lot of stupid people too, because if you believe that it’s somehow unhealthy for kids, for the president to say “work hard and stay in school,” you’re stupid. In fact, I’m worried for some of those kids of those parents who are upset — I’m not sure they are smart enough to raise those kids.

This truly has to be the most asinine argument I’ve heard this year.  How on earth people think that shielding their children from a speech encouraging them to excel in education and in life is a good thing, I can not fathom.

I’ve heard ‘politics has no place in the curriculum’ to other equally weak points and I call bullshit! It all boils down to an undue opportunity for a lynch mob mentality.  It certainly has no real basis in fact or genuine concern of ‘socialism’.

WHY would politics NOT have a place in school??  I grew up in a tiny, backward southern town where I did not understand the world around me.  I didn’t have parents that were invested in my education. Had it not been for my own desire to thrive, learn and move ahead, I would probably be one of these jaded and short sighted individuals.  I wouldn’t understand the value of giving my child every educational advantage possible to them.  I wouldn’t understand other cultures. My life would be fueled by fear and disappointment.  While I do not agree that this particular speech has anything to do with politics, educating the youth of America about politics and world affairs would do a lot of good at thwarting the spoiled attitude and sense of entitlement found in so many generations of modern day easy living.

To address the lesson plan that so many people are clutching to as a point of contention - the speech itself is about setting and working toward goals with an introductory lesson plan explaining who is speaking to them.  I do agree that the initial draft of the plan sent out had a poorly worded phrase, but that was quickly amended for all to understand the actual intent. Let’s stop the non sense of flaming a fire that doesn’t exist. This is an opportunity to provide inspiration to many children that would not otherwise have it.  And for those that are fortunate enough to have such structure, hearing it from a man that has overcome incredible odds is all the more inspiring.

Parents can foolishly pull their child out of school on Sept 8, but they risk earning their child’s resentment.  If I were one of the children I would surely wonder why my parent didn’t want this opportunity for me to better myself and why they weren’t open enough to use this as a point of discussion rather one of repression.  This approach will yield the same success as preaching abstinence rather than educating children on making good decisions with their powerful and growing brain.  Just as there are ways for children to learn about sex on their own, there is YouTube. And the President’s speech will find it’s way there very quickly! And to believe that politics should not be in the minds of children, I am left to believe that these parents have removed tv’s and computers from their homes.  Newsflash - it’s a big topic and your children are sponges.

The discovery of nuclear chain reactions need not bring about the destruction of mankind any more than did the discovery of matches. We only must do everything in our power to safeguard against its abuse. Only a supranational organization, equipped with a sufficiently strong executive power, can protect us. Einstein

Z: i agree. the heart pumps the hormones to your brain, and the faster the hormone gets there the bigger the heart. creative people are addicted to emotion

I am beyond moved.

I am beyond moved.

This is gonna make you smile

Seriously if this song, and particularly this rendition, doesn’t get you dancing in your seat and smiling like a 2 year old, I think there may be something wrong with your ears.

Jason Mraz - I’m Yours

I was driving back from Miami last Wednesday and starting to fade during the final stretch. I had to wake my man from his enviable slumber to help me refocus. To my complete and utter happiness, he cranked this and quickly had me wide eyed and bellowing highway karaoke through three loops until we arrived home.
