Treat everyone as if they’ve experienced a tragedy and most often, you’ll be right. Unknown

Waiting for the end to come
Wishing I had strength to stand
This is not what I had planned
It’s out of my control
Flying at the speed of light
Thoughts were spinning in my head
So many things were left unsaid
It’s hard to let you go

I know what it takes to move on
I know how it feels to lie
All I want to do
Is trade this life for something new
Holding on to what I haven’t got

Sitting in an empty room
Trying to forget the past
This was never meant to last
I wish it wasn’t so

What was left when that fire was gone
I thought it felt right but that right was wrong
All caught up in the eye of the storm
And trying to figure out what it’s like moving on
And I don’t even know what kind of things I said
My mouth kept moving and my mind went dead
So I’m picking up the pieces, now where to begin
The hardest part of ending is starting again

The Raw Food Life - It’s not as easy as some say, but here I go again!

I tried and enjoyed a raw food lifestyle for a 4 or 5 month stretch last year. Then came the holidays….
I wandered off the path, but have continued to incorporate a high amount of raw into my eating habits.  I’m now ready to take it back up a notch and am having a hard time getting back into the swing of it. Not so much with the motivation, but the organization. And for me, this takes a lot of organization and prep.
Keeping the fridge stocked with wholesome, ready to prepare ingredients is difficult. To create meals with a variety of healthy ingredients that also make your taste buds happy takes planning, as you will see from the list below.  Therefore my first step is to write out what I want to eat for the week and build my raw shopping list.  It’s going to take some fine tuning, as not all of this is in season at my local farmers market.  Ultimately I hope to build several more of these lists and order them by season, but first things first!  I just have to get back to not craving cooked foods. Also, if anyone out there has TRULY easy raw recipe books for people who are challenged in the kitchen, please share them with me! I have tried Ani Phyo, Jennifer Cornbleet’s, and Bryan Au’s and they just aren’t filling that void.

Here is list one which includes many of my staple dishes as well as one or two that I’m going to try this week:
(All are raw unless otherwise noted; I’m not and probably may never be 100% raw.)

Vogue Italia Runs A Controversial Oil Spill-Inspired Editorial

Oil and Water - oil spill editorial

From Refinery29:

There’s no denying that these images from the oil spill editorial in Vogue Italia’s August 2010 issue are beautiful. The 24 pages of Kristen McMenamy, shot by Steven Meisel, are realistic interpretations of images of injured, oiled animals that have inundated the news media since the Deepwater Horizon explosion in April. As beautiful and provocative as they are, we can’t help but feel uneasy. Creating beauty and glamour out of tragedy seems quite fucked up to us, not to mention wasteful and hypocritical, seeing as thousands of dollars of luxury clothing was flown in, and then subsequently ruined for the shoot.

The remaining oil from the Deep Water Horizon catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico water is the equivalent of almost eight Exxon Valdez oil spills.  Our government has allowed Corexit to be pumped into the disaster without limitation, allowing BP to literally get away with murder and covering up the actual cost and extent of their crime.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the “vast majority” of the 4.9 million barrels released into the Gulf has either evaporated “or been burned, skimmed, and recovered from the wellhead, or dispersed.”

After viewing the video, how likely do you feel that BP’s and NOAA’s statements are factual? How confident are you that this is OUR government, for the PEOPLE?

My family is from a small fishing community on the east coast. I know the impact that this would cause on the entire community and don’t have to be in Louisiana to understand the suffering. I know the potential for damage to our lives here along FL coasts as well. I also don’t need to be an M.D. to know that the health effects of this to our health and that of our entire eco system are extremely toxic and systemic. The media and the suits can try to gloss this over with pretty words and outright neglect, but the truth can be found in the voices of the people of the Gulf and surrounding communities. See them on http://oilspill.skytruth.org.

Zoom in on the image below and see just how big this ‘spill’ is compared to past incidents. I have a hard time calling this just a ‘spill’.

No stem left behind!

There’s nothing better for you than fresh, local organic veggies!  But what happens when you have a refrigerator full of them and can’t use them all before they start to wilt?

We never have this problem - every part of the plant gets used here, even when they start to wilt.

Since our dogs get a homemade, natural diet, anything that is left or not so new gets put aside for them. Also, whenever I juice for myself, the remaining pulp is put aside for them. Then when I’m ready to make their food, all of it gets tossed into the juicer, pulped and Waaala! Hound salad!  Dogs digestive systems don’t process whole veggies, nor will mine even attempt to eat them that way.  The juicer works better than any food processor that I’ve used for this. The puree is fine and it takes seconds with little clean up.

These are the meals that I enjoy giving them the most. They love the bones and meats, but it is in these dishes that I can add all of the TLC.  Typically, this is what goes into their dish:

- veggie puree, including leafy greens, fruit, and various other vegetables

- an organ meat or a raw egg to entice my picky eaters

- Halo’s Dream Coat

- Raw garlic or Kyolic substitute if I’m lazy

- Missing Link, Digestive Enzymes

- Arthrimaxx, joint support

- Top with the freshly made veggie juice to get the best nutrients

I love my hounds!

Money will not purchase happiness for the man who has no concept of what he wants; money will not give him a code of values, if he’s evaded the knowledge of what to value, and it will not provide him with a purpose, if he’s evaded the choice of what to seek. Money will not buy intelligence for t…he fool, or admiration for the coward, or respect for the incompetent. Francisco d’Anconia
